A Customisable Product Configurator for Oasis Floral Products

    • A bespoke ecommerce tool enabling customers to order personalised floral foam shapes
    • Seamless integration with Oasis’ existing Magento platform and third-party icon libraries
    • A scalable solution designed for future enhancements .

    The ambition

Oasis Floral Products, a global leader in floral foam and sundries, recognised an opportunity to stand out in a competitive market. With price and delivery speed offering little room for advantage, Oasis sought to deliver something unique; a simple, user-friendly way for florists and individuals to create and order custom-cut foam shapes, enhancing their floral arrangements with bespoke designs

At the heart of this ambition was Oasis’ investment in a state-of-the-art CNC cutting machine. The challenge, however, lay in bringing this physical capability to life online. They needed a digital experience that would allow users to browse, select, and preview bespoke shapes, without complexity, whilst ensuring orders were processed in a format their production team could easily action.

Enigma came on board to design and develop a customisable product configurator that would not only meet these technical demands but also provide a smooth, intuitive customer journey, helping Oasis Floral Products to differentiate their offer, increase basket values and future-proof their business.

    What we did

    Understanding the Physical Constraints

The first step in this project was understanding exactly what Oasis’ new cutting machinery could handle. The foam sheets that the shapes are made from came in four specific sizes, each linked to a unique stock keeping unit at Oasis HQ.

We worked closely with the Oasis team to define the limitations and possibilities of their equipment, ensuring that the configurator’s outputs aligned with what could be physically produced on-site, making it as easy as possible for the team to create and deliver products and keep up their high-levels of customer satisfaction.

    Integration into Existing Ecommerce

Rather than reinventing the wheel, the Enigma team designed a solution that seamlessly embedded into Oasis’ existing e.commerce infrastructure. Customers could select a foam size from a standard product page and then dive into a bespoke design workflow, all within the familiar purchasing environment.

Third-Party API Integration and Cost Management

We integrated a third-party icon database into the current Oasis website, dynamically pulling in design options based on user search queries. To make the UX simple and approachable, users start by selecting a foam sheet size, before entering a search term to browse a curated database of icons. The results, limited to 100 per search to optimise clarity and control third-party API costs, are presented in a clear, visual grid. Customers can preview their chosen design and add it to their basket with ease.

Our developers implemented measures to prevent unnecessary API calls, such as requiring users to log in before accessing the search, thus protecting Oasis from incurring avoidable charges and safeguarding the platform from bot activity.

    Streamlining Order Fulfilment

Once a customised order is placed, the selected icon (in high-resolution JPEG format) and order details are automatically passed to Oasis’ internal systems and sent via email to their production team.

This ensures the cutting team receives precise information to manufacture the bespoke design with minimal manual intervention. Backup workflows were introduced to provide redundancy and ensure order accuracy.

    Mobile Optimisation and UI Refinement

Given the diverse range of Oasis’ customers, from wholesale buyers to one-off consumers, we prioritised mobile responsiveness and usability from the outset. The configurator’s interface was designed to be clear and reassuring, ensuring that even customers unfamiliar with ordering bespoke products online could navigate the process confidently, and would be confident to return to the site for repeat orders in the future.

    Results

The new platform is now live and in use, offering Oasis a distinct competitive edge in a market where personalisation is a growing priority. What began as a technical challenge, to bridge online orders with CNC manufacturing, has become a showcase of Oasis’ commitment to innovation, customer experience, and future proofing their business. This first phase, built around a curated icon database, lays a solid foundation for further enhancements including user-uploaded designs and the integration of sustainable materials.

For Oasis, this project is a strategic move towards deeper customer engagement and market leadership in floral design innovation.
