Web-to-Print Platform for My Child's Art

    • Complex digital ecosystem development with a central Web-to-Print  Platform.
    • Advanced product customisation options with a purpose-built Design Online Tool.
    • Centralised Artwork Portal development for secure access to children's artwork.

    The Ambition

My Child's Art has been a cornerstone in supporting schools and children's groups across the UK with exciting creative projects that transform children's artwork into cherished keepsakes.

After experiencing year-on-year growth, the My Child's Art team identified a strategic opportunity to strengthen and advance their business by upgrading their platform.

The main goals of this upgrade were to improve the user experience, optimise operational efficiency, and build a robust infrastructure that could support future business growth.

    What we did

We worked closely with the team at My Child's Art to gain a deep understanding of their business, products, and processes. We took a hands on approach that involved:

    • Completing an artwork fundraiser of our very own, with drawings provided by everyone in our wonderful team!
    • Spending a day with the My Child's Art admin team to understand how our artwork would be processed and made available as products to customise and buy.
    • Working with the My Child's Art delivery team to understand how their customer services workflows are set up, and what we could do to make their lives easier.
    • Spending a day in the My Child's Art warehouse, learning how products are printed, packaged, and sent to customers.

This hands-on approach allowed us to identify additional functionality that could be developed into the new Web-to-Print Platform to help them achieve their goals.

A DIGITAL ECOSYSTEM WITH USERS AT THE HEART

Recognising the need for seamless integration, it became evident that the development of the Web-to-Print Platform needed a holistic approach - looking at how each user would interact at each touchpoint and determining what functionality would be needed to fulfil their intended goals.

We knew we needed to approach this platform development as a complete digital ecosystem.

To achieve this, we defined the following user groups:

    • Fundraisers from schools and children's groups  - this user group would need to request a fundraising pack via a main website. Once the campaign was live, they would need access to real-time information on product sales and commission earned.
    • Parents  and guardians - users purchasing customisable products would need exclusive access to their child's artwork. They would need an easy-to-navigate online store.
    • The My Child's Art team - the team needed an efficient process for scanning, uploading and distributing the children's artwork for each campaign. They would also require control over the products available on the eCommerce website to coincide with seasonal campaigns.

AN ARTWORK PORTAL THAT MAKES IT EASY FOR PARENTS AND SCHOOLS

Typically, the Web to Print platforms we build put the focus on users uploading their artwork directly to the eCommerce website. This works well for customers who are, for example, ordering leaflets and business cards they've designed.

My Child's Art does things a little differently, because the artwork they use is scanned and edited in their warehouse before being made available for users to find online. We knew we wanted to improve this process both for the staff working hard behind the scenes, and for the customers using their site, so we:

    • Improved the back office functions that allow for artwork to be scanned and cropped automatically.
    • Built a new Artwork finder interface, that allows parents to find their children's artwork quickly and easily and start creating beautiful products.
    • Built an Artwork List into the customer account area, that allows parents to store their children's artwork and use it on custom products time and time again .

    A CUSTOMISED ECOMMERCE EXPERIENCE

Users are required to enter a unique ID code before entering the eCommerce storefront. Upon entering, they can select their child's artwork which is automatically added to an artwork folder. From there, they can proceed to the eCommerce storefront.

When viewing a product, users will immediately see a mockup of the product with their child's artwork and any other customisations they have made. If they are satisfied with their selection, they can purchase the item instantly in any quantity they require. The product will be delivered directly to their home address. This process eliminates the need for fundraising coordinators to collect product order forms, manually order the different products and distribute them between the children.

The eCommerce storefront has been designed to showcase the playful and vibrant branding of My Child's Art while adhering to content design best practices.

    Design Online Tool

My Child's Art offer a large array of customisation options on their printed products, which include adding custom text, colours, and themed borders alongside their artwork.

To achieve this, we developed a Design Online Tool that integrates with the Web-to-Print eCommerce storefront. The tool allows users to add text, borders, and other design elements to the product. These customisations are then applied to the instant mock-up of the product.

By doing so, the user experience is improved, and the product offering becomes more unique, which is in line with the My Child's Art brand's value of creativity.

    The Results

Our collaboration with the My Child's Art team has led to the development of an advanced platform that prioritises the user experience for both customers and staff.

Through extensive research and analysis of their business models and workflows, we identified areas where a digital solution could streamline processes and improve overall alignment with their business objectives. As a result, a digital ecosystem was created to bridge any gaps and provide a more effective solution.

The My Child's Art Web-to-Print Platform processes an average of 2,000 orders per day and we continue to work with the team to evolve their offering.
