  • The Pen Shop Sign Off

    We’re delighted to announce that we recently launched The Pen Shop’s brand new ecommerce website.

    The new site marks a significant step change in the digital presence of The Pen Shop who are Europe's largest luxury pens & gifts specialist stocking world famous brands such as Montblanc, Parker and Cross. Until recently the company, which has retail stores in cities across the UK, was focused on its bricks and mortar business with its website as an additional service rather than the heart of the business.

    The Directors of The Pen Shop reviewed their position in the market and the opportunities available to them and set the ambitious goal of shifting their business model to being a digital first business that provides a seamless customer experience on and offline.

    When we began working with The Pen Shop we adopted their existing Magento 1.8 eCommerce site. This gave us the time and space to run a digital strategy exercise, something that we do with the majority of our clients. The key to this is to spend time to fully understand a client’s universe before jumping to conclusions about technology choices or feature requirements. It’s an involved process but this deep analysis of the business aims and objectives, customer requirements and barriers to success, means we are able to create a far reaching digital strategy that is a strong foundation for a long term partnership.

    One of the outcomes of this process was that we decided not to simply migrate their site from Magento 1.8 to Magento 2 (something we have successfully done for a number of clients) but to create a completely custom build eCommerce platform. The bespoke eCommerce platform we have created is specifically tailored to The Pen Shop’s requirements and will allow them to express their very unique selling points freely.

    As well as many standard ‘out-of-the-box’ features the Pen Shop’s custom eCommerce platform has a plethora of powerful features built just for them. These features run deep within the design of the site and the platform and are there to help The Pen Shop demonstrate to customers why they should choose them for luxury pens and gifts. Examples of this include richly detailed pages for brands, advanced product pages that show off Pen Shop’s exquisite writing instruments in detail and pen specific features like a nib exchange and an intelligent refill finder service.
