Welcome to the Institute of Physics

We’re delighted to announce that we’re working with the Institute of Physics on a project to provide digital consultancy and strategy as well as our web design and development services.

The Institute of Physics (IoP) is a leading scientific membership society working to advance physics for the benefit of all. They have a worldwide membership from enthusiastic amateurs to those at the top of their fields in academia, business, education and government. The IoP’s aim is to gather, inspire, guide, represent and celebrate all who share a passion for physics. A significant part of this mission is based around a wide range of online learning resources and education sites created by the institute.

We’re working with the teaching department on a project that will initially look at the content and education resources across 5 different sites with a view to migrating everything into a central content store. By consolidating everything in this way, the existing content can be made more accessible to different user groups and new content can be added in a logical way in future. The next stage of the strategy will be to design and build a content rich website which will create a single, inspiring online destination for teachers of physics.

As well as being able to edit and manage existing resources the team at the IoP will need to easily add new resources and, more importantly create and easily updateable ontology between materials. With significant new developments occurring regularly in physics and physics education, the challenge is to create a data architecture to facilitate this that is innovative and future proof. The ultimate aim being to make sure the most interesting and inspiring materials from the bleeding edge of physics are also linked to foundation elements too.

Currently we are also exploring options for navigation features that will allow teachers to move between related topics and create their own narrative for their lesson planning.

This is set to be a fascinating project in creating a significant online education resource to inspire teachers working in an equally fascinating subject area. We’ll be updating you with further news soon and will be adding more detail in our Work section once the project is completed.
