    The Ambition

    The North East Futures UTC approached us with a clear goal: to create a website that effectively communicates its distinctive approach. As a University Technical College, NE Futures UTC operates with a unique perspective compared to traditional schools. They sought a website that would showcase their strong connections with the local tech and digital industry in the Northeast, their commitment to driving innovation in education, and the advantages of attending the institution. 

    What We Did

    Working closely with the marketing and senior management team at the UTC we quickly got a feel for what makes their approach to education special. We designed and developed a website that conveys that specialness and provides both students and their parents with the information they need to make an informed decision.

    Vibrant website design

    The primary target audience of the UTC consists of young individuals aspiring to pursue careers in STEM industries, along with their parents or guardians. With this demographic in mind, we envisioned a website characterised by a vibrant and youthful design, while maintaining a sense of professionalism that reflects the UTC’s commitment to excellent education – a quality highly valued by parents. 

    Utilising large imagery throughout the website offers prospective students and parents an immersive experience, allowing them to truly grasp the atmosphere, architecture, and educational activities taking place within the institution. Additionally, we incorporated coloured overlays sparingly on hero images to infuse a contemporary feel and effectively communicate key messages such as “like school, but different”, emphasising the UTC’s focus on hands-on learning in a digital world.

    By using large imagery wherever possible we make prospective students and parents really get a feel for the space, the building and the learning that goes on inside. Coloured overlays used sparingly on hero images add a contemporary feel and get the key messages across: Like school, but different with project-based learning and on support.

    Bringing the brand into the digital realm

    Leveraging UTC’s brand, we transitioned their assets and style into the digital realm, employing a vibrant colour palette and simple imagery. Drawing inspiration from the forward-pointing shape of the UTC logo, we applied this as a motif throughout the website.

    Guiding users to successful outcomes

    Addressing a highlighted challenge of unclear user journeys and ineffective calls to action, the new website was designed with well-defined user journeys that guide users from relevant information to decision-making. These guides are consistently complemented by prominent calls to action, such as “apply here” or “download a prospectus”.

    The Results

    We’re really excited to have been able to work on this project, the North East Futures UTC really does approach education differently and in a way that’s designed to take an industry backed, practically led approach to teaching especially in STEM subjects. The site has seen an uplift in traffic and enquiries for the next academic year and is already having a positive impact on the enrolment of many new students.
