  • On Your Marks, Get Set, Bake!

Last Friday we rolled up our sleeves and filled our faces in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

At Enigma HQ we are well known for our appreciation of good cake, luckily we have a number of keen bakers in our team who regularly show off their skills and keep our sugar levels topped up. Never ones to miss an opportunity for a bit of healthy competition, and perhaps some not so healthy amounts of sweet baked goods, our bakers set to work creating a spread worthy of the Bake Off.

Masterminded by our head baker, developer Nick Titchmarsh this year saw a bigger selection of goodies than ever. There were contributions from staff across the business including: developers, designers, producers, our marketing manager and various people’s partners too.

    Cake Selection

In amongst the usual crowd pleasers of a Smartie topped chocolate cake, a Victoria sponge and Nicks famous brownies were, an apple cake, cheesecake, strawberry tarts, cheese puffs and even dairy free options. The only notable absence was Shelly’s Jamaican Ginger cake which unfortunately fell prey to her cats who decided it was in their way and pushed it off the table!

Luckily there was more than enough to keep us going all day with some staff proudly declaring that “I didn’t eat any ‘normal’ food yesterday, just cake!” The award for star baker went to developer Kev’s fiancé Lily, whose cream cheese filled scones and Hungarian sponge cake were a triumph that Prue and Paul would have been proud of. The real winner of the day though was charity, the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning takes place every year and is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. Last year we raised £122.85 and this year we made even more with a total of £148.14.

Since the first ever coffee morning in 1990 Macmillan has raised a staggering £165 million and this year they hope to top £30 million. When it’s for such a good cause (and there’s an excuse to eat cake) we’re more than happy to dig deep and donate to help Macmillan support people with cancer.

Thanks to our bakers, and everyone who filled their faces and the collection tin!
