Today (25th May 2018) new data protection laws come into effect and you’ve probably had a few emails about it….
GDPR or the General Data Protection Regulation forms part of the data protection rules in the UK together with the new Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018). The new rules are designed to help keep up with the pace of change in the digital industry and give customers greater control over their data and privacy.
Customers now have new rights including the right to request access to the information a company holds about them and to request that their data be removed or that they are no longer contacted. From now on companies will be more accountable for the way that they handle people’s data and personal information. They must also obtain explicit consent to use personal information. The new changes will be enforced by the information commissioner’s office.
As a digital development agency we have been working with our clients to prepare for the new GDPR laws. We recently published a news item about GDPR and why it’s so important and we have also updated our cookie policy and privacy policy.
