Enigma Interactive has partnered the North East Combined Authority to power an ambitious new platform that recognises employers leading with fairness, opportunity, respect and inclusivity.
Shine, which is backed by North East Mayor, Kim McGuniess, recognises and supports employers who lead with fairness, opportunity, respect, and inclusivity. The scheme guides members through a tiered progression across five beams of good practice.
The new initiative encourages businesses to commit to better workplace practices while being recognised and celebrated. The Shine team wanted to relaunch with a new brand, a modern digital presence, and, most importantly, a powerful membership and accreditation system. The team wanted a modern, scalable way to help organisations commit to better workplace practices and be celebrated for it.
To make the process as easy as possible for businesses to navigate, the online journey is now focused around Shine’s five “Beams” of good practice, introducing a clear progression from Foundation to Intermediate to Advanced accreditation. The result is an accessible, motivating path that lets businesses start small and build confidence over time.
Behind the scenes, Enigma delivered a streamlined back-office that replaces spreadsheets and email trails with an end-to-end assessment and validation flow, freeing Shine’s small team to focus on growth and engagement rather than admin. When members are accredited, their achievement doesn’t stop at a logo, each organisation now receives a branded public profile that turns recognition into a practical tool for recruitment, supply-chain decisions and partnership building.
The impact has been immediate, since the launch in June 2025, Shine has accrued over 180 new members, and received positive feedback from assessors and validators.
The new Shine platform is the foundation for a thriving community of North East businesses committed to doing good work, one that can host events, share resources and keep scaling without technical limits.
