Enigma Outreach Adventures 2024 Wrapped

Inspiring the next generation of digital talent

As we say hello to 2025, we look back on some of the highlights of our Outreach activity throughout 2024:

6 x Student visits to Enigma’s studio
We regularly host group student visits to our office, where we will give a presentation about what it’s like to work at Enigma and talk about the digital sector in general. This is followed by a digital challenge, where the students work in pairs to complete a programming task and a UX/UI task set by our developers. A prize is given to the winning pair.

12 x Student Work Experience Weeks
We are passionate about introducing young people to the world of work, and in particular the digital industry. Our work experience students learn what it’s like to work at a digital development agency, and are given a meaningful task, typical of the work we do at Enigma, to complete during their time with us. They often gain valuable “soft skills” through their interactions in the workplace. Following an initial induction, the student is introduced to one of our software/web development teams, who they will work with for the week, and are assigned their task. They have a mentor within the team (one of our developers) for help and support. The student joins the team's daily stand-up meetings, where they share the tasks they have completed, what they have scheduled for that day, and any problems they've encountered.

10 x Student Mock Interviews
All our work experience students are invited to the Enigma studio for a mock interview before their placement. We ask them about their school or college life, their passions and aspirations and any employment they may have had. This gives them valuable, real-world experience as well as a chance to ask questions, meet the team, and see the place where they will be completing their placement. We have also held mock interview sessions with college and university students looking to work in the digital sector. This helps to equip them for potential future interviews.

2 x Student Digital Projects
We engage in long term projects with groups of students, most recently at Gateshead College and Newcastle College. We set a task based on the kind of work we do and tie this to the curriculum, which needs input from the school/college. We then visit the school/college to discuss progress with the students once or twice a month over a term.

10 x Careers Fairs
We attend several careers fairs throughout the year. These are typically attended by students of all ages, as well as teachers and parents.
