After a series of new business wins we’re looking for talented developers to join our team.

We are delighted to announce that we have recently won work from new clients including Traidcraft and Seaward. Not only that but a number of our existing clients are ramping up their digital partnerships and increasing the amount of work in our schedules. Basically, lots of exciting new projects means we are on the lookout for new developers to join our team and help us deliver top quality work for our clients.

As a specialist digital development agency we have a heavy weighting of production staff and developers are the power in the engine room that drives Enigma forward. We have a number of roles open and are looking for developers of all levels from junior to senior, frontend, backend or full stack. You can find full job specs in our Join our team section but essentially the key attributes we are looking for are:

• Excellent coding and problem solving abilities and a ‘can do’ attitude.
• Experience of languages and platforms such as Java, Magento (PHP), .NET, Python, HMTL, CSS, JS.
• Familiarity with web server technology such as Nginx or Apache.
• An understanding of database design and technology such as MySQL.
• Experience of, or the skills to, help lead the design and development of complex digital and web applications.
• An understanding of how to create high performance, robust, scalable applications to tight commercial deadlines.
• An enthusiasm to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplined team.
• A passion for creating the very best digital applications.

You will get to work on a wide variety of the best and most exciting cutting edge digital projects around. We do everything from brochure sites, through ecommerce, games and interactives and software development to full scale digital transformation for clients like the BBC, BAE Systems, RSPCA and The Open University.

Oh and screens – lots of screens, our developers have a minimum of two up to a (current) maximum of 4 screens (and the hardware to power them). Developers seem to like screens and we like to keep our developers happy!

Training and CPD

All of our new starters are given a comprehensive induction and full support and mentoring to get them up to speed with the technologies and systems that we use.

We have regular internal tech briefings where staff share their thoughts on the latest technologies and techniques they have been using whether on client projects or personal projects. Recent subjects have included Virtual Reality, Risk and impact analysis, Magento 2, GitHub, Effective Debugging, Web sockets, Continuous integration and UX.

We also have internal hack nights where we investigate the latest technologies and frameworks with added beer and pizza. We’ve also attended and won a number of external hackathon competitions.

To keep up to date with the latest trends and insights we attend dev and digital industry conferences such as Thinking Digital, VRTGO and DiBi. Many of our staff also attend the regular dev community meetups covering a wide range of relevant subjects. The most popular include Agile NE, DevOps, Frontend NE, NEBytes, PHP NE, Magento NE, Python NE, etc.

Staff Socials

We have an active and varied staff social events calendar which has seen us take on bowling at Lane7, Go Karting, Room Escape Newcastle, and Sausage making amongst other things. There are regular nights out too with Beer Fridays, and a monthly Monday night dinner club where we check out the hottest new restaurants in town.

Health and Wellbeing

Every week we get a bumper delivery of fresh fruit. There’s also always a fresh pot of hand roasted artisan coffee from the Ouseburn Coffee Co. on the go.

On Monday and Wednesday lunchtimes Pilate’s sessions run by expert Rachel Quinn are a great way of improving core strength and posture after sitting at a desk. At the more hard-core end of the scale, every Tuesday we have personal training sessions with Lucy Moss a competitive strongwoman / drill sergeant!

Charity

We support charities via our nominated charity of the year, which this year is St Oswald’s Hospice. A number of staff support other charities too by doing Macmillan coffee mornings and bake sales while the more energetic take on the Great North Run and other events for some fantastic causes.
