    Placement Developer 2027/28 (12 months)

    Placement Developer required to join the team in summer 2027.: Note: This placement is for students who are doing a Bachelor's degree and is part of their degree course. It is not for Graduates. Are you a student developer looking to spend your 12-month industrial placement with an inspirational team of creative developers you can learn from? Do you want to experience a vibrant, collaborative, team led studio environment? Yes? Then this is a great opportunity to join Enigma’s award-winning development team during your 12-month placement.

    Headquartered on Newcastle’s Quayside, Enigma are a 47-strong team of creative developers, producers, designers and digital innovators. We work with some of the most ambitious clients from around the UK and design and build market leading web, mobile and bespoke digital applications for them.

    At Enigma, we provide a placement framework which offers practical experience in software development, covering the full software development lifecycle. This will give you exposure to various technologies and methodologies and we encourage you to take ownership of your learning and to feed into that framework, where appropriate.

    Continuous development is incorporated into our placement framework which means you’ll have regular meetings with a workplace supervisor and mentor, to discuss progress, challenges and learning opportunities. Also, included are:

    • Code reviews
    • Presentation skills with opportunities to deliver short presentations / demonstrations where appropriate
    • Teamwork and collaboration
    • Time management and task prioritisation
    • Professionalism and work ethic
    • Effective communication with opportunities to contribute to client discussions where appropriate
    • Platform contributions
    • Involvement in suitable outreach events such as careers fairs or school visits

    We would like to see creative developers who have…

    • Knowledge of object-oriented languages, such as Java, .NET or PHP.
    • Knowledge of front-end web technologies such as React, Vue.JS, JavaScript, SASS or LESS.
    • Knowledge of database technology such as MySQL.
    • The drive to learn new skills, technologies and frameworks.
    • The desire to contribute to a creative and collaborative multi-disciplined team.

    Duties and tasks will be directed by your team lead /producer and senior developer of your team and are likely to include:

    • Implementation of front-end user interfaces and experience based on graphic designs.
    • Implementation of server-side logic and code based on technical / functional specification.
    • Design and configuration of data storage / database schemes.
    • Peer to peer testing and review of work delivered by team mates.

    • Excellent coding and problem-solving abilities and a positive ‘can do’ attitude.
    • An interest and passion for digital technology - specifically web and app design and development.
    • An inquisitive and analytical mind.

    What we absolutely need to see as part your application!

    At Enigma, we’ve been very fortunate to get a large number of high calibre applicants for our placement opening each year and in order to help our review process, and make sure we find the right placement for Enigma, we need to see the following as part of your application.

    • A covering letter along with your current CV giving insight into the type of person and developer you are, what makes you tick, and what is it about digital development that inspires you.
    • An example of your coding work (please provide a link). This should not be work you’ve done as part of your degree coursework but something you’ve created in your own time / personally or indeed, something you’ve put together specifically for this placement application. If you are invited to interview, you will be expected to do a full walk-through of this work and answer questions to demonstrate your understanding.
    • Sadly, if you do not provide the above, I’m afraid we will not be able to process your application!
