    The Ambition

    After the success of our work on a B2B eCommerce site for parent company William Smith we were asked to develop a site for sub brand Smith.

    Smith is a family run business with over 180 years experience in the manufacturing industry. They’re the UK’s oldest sign maker and manufactured the first 'real' road sign in 1930, a close relative of the signs that you probably pass hundreds of every day.

    The ambition for this project was to create a separate and distinct site for the Smith brand that still related back to the William Smith parent brand as an important part of their history and their future.

    What We Did

    We designed and developed a fully responsive site that referenced Smith’s impressive history as well as the up to date modern techniques and designs that the company continues to produce for the sign industry 180 years on.

    Along with a simple user interface we created separate sections to focus on each of the product lines that Smith make. Clear iconography is used to guide customers and help them find the right solution for their needs.

    Most of Smiths projects are very bespoke so getting the quality and craftsmanship of the finished signage across was really important. The use of large imagery and simple galleries highlights these key attributes.

    Other customer focused features include PDF brochure downloads, FAQs, a news section, search function, contact form and links to social media channels.

    Integration

    A key part of this project was that this site, although for a separate brand, needed to be run from William Smith’s main CMS. The custom content management system that we originally built for William Smith was extended with a new module that allows the content of the new site to be managed independently but equally elements like assets can be shared across the CMS from one site to the other if required.
