As 2026 began and Storm Goretti swept across the UK, we’ve been working with our partners at National Grid to respond to the storm’s disruption digitally and minimise the impact to their customers.
Storm Goretti caused disruption across the National Grid Electricity Distribution area, and at its peak, over 73,000 premises were off supply.
While National Grid’s teams have been hard at work restoring power and supporting customers, this caused National Grid’s second largest web event.
Their Power Cuts site saw over 1.4 million views over a six-day period, with over 500,000 on a single day at the storm’s peak. And over 10,000 people reported power cuts online, amidst issues with their electricity supply.

As National Grid’s digital partner, we’re aware that drops in their electricity service can cause spikes in online traffic. The contingency plans we’ve developed collaboratively with them mean that their websites and supporting architecture can withstand sudden increases. This has included:
- Adding a Storm Goretti alert on National Grid’s homepage, so that customers can quickly access the latest updates
- Tailoring National Grid’s Storm Information pages on the Power Cuts website to Storm Goretti, providing up to date information, highlighting contact options for customers who are experiencing power cuts, and showcasing what National Grid are doing to help
- The Enigma team being on hand to help and support National Grid. We’ve ensured their digital presence matches and enhances the storm responses being made by their engineering and customer services teams
