Feature Spotlight: Mapping what’s important to you

We’ve been working on a new component which displays key locations, routes and areas on a map. It’s a perfect way to show the places that are important to you and your business, such as your projects, shops, or investments.

You can include additional information including text and images about each point on your map, and categorise them. We’re using Mapbox’s location platform to build customisable maps, which gives you a range of different map backgrounds and views.

How you can use it

The map component offers a more engaging and interactive way to display geographical data on your website. It’s particularly useful for ‘Our locations’ or ‘Visit us’ pages, but there are lots of other potential applications. We think it will be great for clients who have physical sites, retail businesses with suppliers across an area, or public sector partners who look after a local government area.

How it works

The map is configurable and editable, making it easy for marketing teams and content editors to use. Adding a map to your site, editors can:

• choose between a range of map backgrounds
• create new points, lines or areas of interest
• categorise them, so they can be filtered for display
• configure the additional information about each area (including text, links and images)

Mapbox

We’re using Mapbox’s base maps, which enable cross-platform development and support custom geospatial datasets, to create visualisations of your locations.

A clean user interface

When users zoom out, points on the map are grouped or ‘clustered’ for an uncluttered and clean look.

Areas of focus

You can create background areas – for example, highlighting the region you operate in – to provide visual distinction.
