  • BIMA Digital Day is Back

We’re really excited that IRL (In Real Life) events like client meetings and annual fixtures in our calendar like BIMA’s Digital Day have been able to return after what feels like forever. BIMA, the British Interactive Media Association, created the Digital Day which is the only initiative of its kind and pairs digital agencies with schools to give 11-16 year olds an insight into a world of digital careers.

Across the country digital has been growing at twice the rate of the broader economy, leading to a skills gap, especially in places like the North East where there is a thriving digital community. It’s really important for us as an agency to be involved in any initiative that helps engage and inspire the next generation, encouraging more young people to discover the potential of a digital career.

We’ve been involved with BIMA Digital Day’s for over 7 years, working with different schools all across the North East to help engage with students and teach them about the opportunities available in the digital industry. In 2019 we paired up with North East Futures UTC, not only are they the nearest school to us but they’re a perfect fit because like every University Technical College (UTC) they concentrate on key sectors with the aim of closing the skills gap and in our region their focus is on the digital technology and healthcare services.

Back in 2019 we were the first agency to deliver a Digital Day to an entire school, at the time North East Futures UTC had over 200 students in year 10 and 11 who took on three nationwide digital challenges set by BIMA sponsors. The 2020 day had to be delivered on a much smaller scale and remotely for obvious reasons but this year’s Digital Day is set to be bigger and better than ever. On the 10th November a team of Enigma staff will be back at the North East Futures UTC campus to deliver another exciting event to the entire school and as the UTC has grown, this time there are even more students to inspire and to take on a digital challenge.

Watch out for news after the event on what this year’s challenge was and some of the ideas that the students come up with in response to it.
