The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is widely regarded as the accepted authority on the English language. It is an unsurpassed guide to the meaning, history, and pronunciation of over 600,000 words from a 1,000 year history of English.
The OED is part of the Oxford University Press, the world's largest university press with the widest global presence. Founded over 400 years ago it has more than 6,000 employees, publishes across the world in more than 40 languages, and in a variety of formats including print and digital.
We were commissioned by the OED to create an interactive showing the journey of a word from its origin to its entry in the dictionary.
