Newcastle International Destination Map
As part of their website upgrade and refresh, Newcastle International Airport (NIA) briefed Enigma to redesign their existing flight destinations map. The key elements required by NIA, were the ability to update flight destinations in house, in addition to providing an engaging and informative user experience through clear design and illustration.
Enigma approached the brief with three key objectives in mind;
- Ease of back-end use where no prior web knowledge would be required
- Simple, clean and informative front-end user interface
- Future proof back-end integration using XML structure files
The delivered solution was an interactive map that allowed NIA to add or remove any number of destinations throughout the world. Each destination has the ability to attach chartered/scheduled flight timetables, city information and flight or holiday booking facilities which are linked through the XML file, to their current internal data systems and e-shops.
Users of the map can select destinations in various ways allowing for differing types and levels of experience or knowledge. Quick links and pull down menus allow users with destinations in mind, to quickly find relevant and useful information on their desired location and flights. While users who wish to browse for potential destinations may prefer the drag and zoom functionality, also provided through the interface, to browse the world at their leisure.
