Gordon Phillips is the author of Self Learn Read and Spell. Gordon left school at 14, unable to read or spell himself. At 16, he taught himself to read, by memorising words. But throughout his business career, he struggled with spelling.
At the age of 60, after 6,000 hours of research to decode the English language, Gordon overcame his difficulties, and now he can read and spell as well as any other adult.
Gordon spent three years working with young offenders, 70% of whom could not read. He introduced an intensive reading programme, which got all the boys reading within six months. Gordon saw that dyslexic children living in poverty were at a huge disadvantage. He concluded that they needed one-to-one support in their learning, but that for most of them this would not be possible. That realisation led Gordon to devise Self Learn Read and Spell - a programme that gives students that vital one-to-one support.
